Litter updates
Newborn
Freyja started labouring on Thursday night. She was quite unsettled, however she kept moving around. I prepared a few places for her where she would feel safe and settled. However, hour after hour went and no sign of her moving into the established labour phase. I tried to get some sleep but she insisted on sitting on top of my head, so not much sleep was had by either of us. Around 4am early morning of the 23/10, I saw some signs of slight pushing, but still a long time between each contraction. This went on for around 45 minutes. At this stage a bubble of amniotic fluid had some outside, but not sign of a kitten. I tried to prevent her from licking this and bursting the bubble, but after several attempts, she managed to get to it and unfortunately it popped. I know at this stage we need to kitten to appear quote soon. She started pushing a bit harder, but when no kitten had appeared after 40 minutes, I thought it was time to contact the vet. I got a cat carrier ready and came out of the room to call the emergency vet to prepare them for our arrival. However, when I came back into the room, I was very happy to see that Freyja had managed to push out the first kitten. It was very lively and active, so at this stage you breathe a sigh of relief. She had 3 more kittens within the next hour and she seemed really settled with the kittens. They were all nursing. I had a good feel of her stomach and couldn't feel any more kittens there were obvious. As I had been up all night I decided to go to be around 7.30am for a couple of hours. When I got up around 9.30am, I was surprised to find another kitten born. All kittens are doing well and Freyja is an amazing mum as normal. This is her last litter, so we will enjoy it tremendously.
